Fire doors are one of the most vital elements of a building and are specified and installed as part of a built-in passive fire protection system.
The specification, installation and maintenance of fire doors are governed by Building Regulations, British and European Standards, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order: 2005 (otherwise known as the FSO or RRO). They apply to both new and existing buildings.
A building usually incorporates two methods of fire protection systems in its design – these are active and passive.
