Active Fire Protection (AFP)

Active Fire Protection (AFP) is an integral part of fire protection. AFP is characterised by items and/or systems which become “activated” if a fire or smoke is detected:

  • Alarms
  • Smoke detectors
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Fire extinguishers

are examples that are commonplace in UK buildings

However, we cannot rely on these systems alone as they can fail, even for the simplest of reasons such as not replacing a battery in a smoke alarm.
