Door Design

The design and configuration of a fire door determines the level and type of testing it requires.

Not all fire doors are the same, nor made in the same way.

Fire doors are made from different core materials, often supported by additional framing:

There are different fire door designs, with each design type requiring a different construction and test because the composition of the core and any support framing will be different.

Not all fire doors are suitable for glazing. You will need to check the fire door test certificate or data sheet for details of what door configuration is permitted, and whether or not the door may be glazed. Details of this should be supplied with every third-party certificated timber fire door.

Glazing fire doors is a specialist job and must never be undertaken on site, or without permission of the fire door manufacturer. Failure to do so will nullify the fire test certificate.
