All different fire door assembly designs are required to be fire tested to either UK or European standards, and in some cases both. These standards are:
BS476 Part 22 (for non-loadbearing elements)
and
BS EN1634 part 1.
Both standards require the complete assembly to be tested and Individual door assembly components may be subjected to separate tests.
The cold smoke performance of a fire door needs to be considered separately from fire and hot smoke performance, and a separate test report is required where this is necessary.
Another important British standard specifiers, installers, & maintainers need to consider is BS8214: 2008 (The Code of practice for fire door assemblies with non-metallic leaves). The importance of doorsets is acknowledged in this standard and it gives recommendations for the specification, installation and maintenance of fire doors and is applicable to doors that are designed to provide fire resistance ratings of up to and including 2 hours
