In the UK, we often mean a ‘fire door leaf’ when we talk about fire doors.

In fact, this is the main component of the complete fire door assembly or doorset.

The leaf cannot work without its other components

Its frame

Hinges

Its intumescent seals

and other ironmongery

The standard practice in the UK is to:

  • buy separate components for a fire door assembly
  • from different sources

and

  • assemble and install them all on site

just as any other type of door.

But this is no ordinary door. It is expected to hold back fire for 30 minutes or longer. You MUST think of a fire door in a different way

  • each component must be fire rated, and
  • match what was used when the door assembly was tested. They MUST be correct and compatible.

The ideal solution, to ensure that everything in the assembly is compatible with the fire test certificate is to use doorsets

The ideal solution is to use a doorset. Doorsets are manufactured and supplied complete with the correct frame and any necessary glazed apertures, intumescent’s and ironmongery etc., and are fitted as a complete and certificated unit.
